Scores use a heuristic chunker that approximates how retrieval systems split pages. Each engine chunks differently, so treat this as a strong directional map, not a guarantee that any passage was retrieved.
What content chunking is
Content chunking is how retrieval systems split a page into passages before deciding what to quote. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI features do not weigh your page as a whole: they pull individual 50 to 200 word chunks and use the ones that make sense on their own. A passage that leans on the paragraph above it dies the moment it is extracted.
Analyses of AI answers also show position matters: a large share of citations come from the first third of a page. If your strongest, most quotable passages sit near the end, they are buried where retrieval rarely looks. The front-load meter above measures exactly that.
What each passage is scored on
Four checks, all evidenced in published research on AI citations: does the passage stand alone without pointer phrases like "as mentioned above" or an unresolved opening "it"; does it answer first instead of winding up; does it carry concrete facts and figures; and does it name specific entities rather than staying abstract.
Fix the red passages first: restate the payload instead of pointing at it, add one sourced figure, resolve the pronouns. Then re-run the map and watch the chunks turn green before you publish.
