Why alt text matters three times over
An image without alt text is invisible to Google Images, silent to screen readers, and meaningless to the AI engines now describing pages to their users. One missing attribute costs you on all three fronts at once. This alt text checker finds every image on the page and grades what it carries.
Good alt text describes what the image actually shows, in one sentence, without an "image of" prefix and without a keyword list. A chart's alt should carry the chart's takeaway. A decorative divider should have an empty alt, which is correct markup, so screen readers skip it.
What this alt tag checker flags
Missing alt text is the headline offender, but the audit also catches useless one-word alts, keyword-stuffed alts that read as spam, camera junk filenames like IMG_20260712.jpg that waste a ranking signal, and images without width and height, which cause layout shift and hurt Core Web Vitals.
Empty alts get their own category rather than a blanket flag, because an empty alt is right for decoration and wrong for information. No parser can tell which from markup alone, so the audit asks you to confirm the intent instead of guessing. Fix the list, re-run, ship the page.
