How opportunities are scored
AI opportunity identification fails most often by chasing the most painful workflow instead of the most workable one. This assessment weighs seven factors: business value and consequence carries the most weight, followed by frequency and volume, process suitability, technical feasibility, data readiness, oversight and risk fit, and strategic alignment. Each factor is scored from your explicit answers. This is guidance, not a benchmark: nothing is compared with other companies or industry averages.
Risk caps then keep the ranking honest. A workflow with a high-impact regulated decision and no meaningful human review cannot score above 49, whatever its value. Sensitive data without an access-control owner, or an undocumented process with unreachable data, caps the same way. Real but addressable prerequisites cap a workflow at 69 until they are done.
Why the biggest workflow rarely comes first
The most valuable-looking workflow is often the hardest to automate safely: it carries the most judgment, the most sensitive data, and the least documentation. An automation opportunity assessment that ignores feasibility produces a project that stalls. The ranking here deliberately favors a frequent, consistent, well-documented workflow with reachable data over a bigger prize that is not ready, because a working first system builds the evidence and confidence the bigger one needs.
Each ranked result names its status: priority now, promising after prerequisites, or do not start here, with the reasons tied to your answers.
From ranking to solution family
A generative AI opportunity assessment should not end at "use AI". For each workflow the result recommends a solution family that matches the evidence: conventional automation for stable rule-based work, an AI-assisted workflow where judgment and review stay human, or a bounded AI agent for repeatable multi-step goals with clear approval boundaries. Vendors and products are deliberately not chosen here: that is an implementation decision, not an assessment output.
What this assessment does not do
- It does not invent time or money savings. Benefits are named as categories only.
- It does not prove your business can implement the winner: that is readiness.
- It is not legal, clinical, employment, financial, or regulatory advice.
- Your answers never leave this browser tab.
The connected next step
This artificial intelligence opportunity assessment tells you where to start. The connected AI Readiness Assessment tells you whether you are ready to start. Finish either one and your compatible answers carry over to the other, in both directions.
AI opportunity assessment FAQs
- How many workflows can I compare?
- Choose up to three from your industry's workflow list. Comparing a shortlist deeply beats scoring everything shallowly, and you can re-run the assessment for a different shortlist at any time.
- Do I have to finish the Readiness assessment first?
- No. Both assessments work on their own. If you have finished the other one, compatible answers are carried over automatically so you are not asked twice.
- Why is my highest-value workflow marked "do not start here"?
- A risk cap fired: usually a high-impact decision with no human review step, sensitive data without an owner, or a process too undocumented to automate safely. The result names the exact reason and the prerequisite that lifts it.
- Where do my answers go?
- Nowhere. Answers live in this browser tab's session storage and are never sent to our servers or analytics. Closing the tab ends the session.
